As part of a three-part release, Alex Haller has shared the indie-psych daydream ‘Patterns’ with listeners, and it’s the kind of track we’re feeling right now in this season of transition. There’s a reassuring quality to the lilting electronics, soft vocals and delicate percussion alongside the song’s repeated mantra, “patterns stay the same, oh, nothing’s gonna change.” We might be lulled into thinking the same old comfort zone is best place to be, but as the subtle sorrowful tone in Haller’s voice and the repetitive nature of the song as a whole conveys - that’s simply not the case. That desperate question, “will it ever change? I’ve got to find a way,” perhaps hints to the next single from this Cambridge songwriter, ‘One Of These Days’.
